Richard Marino is taking over his family business, a travel agency in the Galapagos, dedicated to providing the best luxury cruise booking services for tourists in Galapagos. Over the last decade, Richard has served hundreds of clients in booking cruises.
Zhisheng Wang, an entrepreneurship student from the Kelley School of Business at IUB, has had his one-day tour project for a long time. As a traveler, he has visited over 50 countries globally. In every country, whether it’s Easter Island in Chile, Petra City in Jordan, or Banana Bay in St. Kitts and Nevis, he has tried to connect all travel agencies in the world, aiming to revolutionize and unite the brand. He wishes to build an ecosystem for day tour experiences globally.
The story started one summer when he met Richard during his travels to the Galapagos Islands. He observed Richard's professional service and mature agency system, which prompted him to share his business idea with Richard. They both believed it was a wonderful idea to provide a higher level of travel experience to tourists. They started by designing day tours in Galapagos first. After a while, they realized they were doing well locally in offering their unique day tours. However, many customers were sometimes unable to make online bookings, and the tours were occasionally sold out on the day. When they recognized these issues and saw that the system in Galapagos had matured, they decided to build an online booking service and expand CIG Tours globally.
Technology and coding are always at the core of a business. Wang found his friend, Dongfang Zhao, who is pursuing a doctoral degree in computer science at IUB and has work experience at Facebook. They built the website together as technical assistants for CIG Tours.
About Business
The logo is a turtle because CIG is committed to encouraging people to protect the ocean environment. CIG Tours has confirmed its two business models: they are using hotel business model which invite agencies to join and rebrand as CIG Tours with designed tours and a business system under CIG Tours, and they are establishing direct sales agencies that are 100% owned and managed by CIG Tours.
CIG Tours has always conducted its business transactions and settlements in the Galápagos Islands. However, starting February 10th, 2025, the business operations and settlements will transition to being managed and processed through its U.S.-based entity in Indiana.
